built-in and freestanding styles. Built-in prefabs look a lot like a traditional hearth. Freestanding units have lightweight modular parts that are easy to put together. Both types are available in a variety of sizes and shapes. You can find something to meet your needs with either style.

There are building codes that regulates the installation and it is important to comply with them. The contractor you use will know the applicable laws. If you are installing the units yourself you should check with your local government agency to find out what is required to be in compliance with the law.
